During the Game Developers Conference earlier this year in March, THQ had designed a PR stunt around their ambitious first person shooter, Homefront.
The marketing team for the game decided to release a few thousand red and white balloons into the air to garner attention for the game. What goes up, must come down, and into the San Francisco Bay. So no sooner did they release the balloons into the air, they plummeted to their watery grave in the bay.
Bay Area water control officials had decided to fine THQ $7000 for this stunt even though THQ argued that all the balloons were biodegradable and made of soy-based material…Just because they are biodegradable dosen’t mean the will disappear in a day or two, we are still talking years at that and besides, some of us like our water clean.
