In what has been a disturbing trend of security breaches in the gaming world, publisher Square Enix announced that someone “may have gained unauthorized access to a particular Square Enix server.” In less politically correct, press-release-y terms, they got hacked. In response, the servers in both Japan and the United States were taken offline.
According to Square, no personal information has been compromised. They’ve also taken full blame for the breach (what?! a company being responsible?) and are working to investigate and fix any issues that have arisen. So basically, Square is doing everything that they should in response to something like this. Good on ya, Square. Are you taking notes Sony?
