Fortnite Inspired by Minecraft Says Epic

With it’s reveal at the VGA’s, Fortnite took gamers by suprise, with a new kind of game from Epic. While little is known about the title, from the trailer it looks to place players in a defense game of some kind. But as some gamers are pointing out it bares a slight resemblance to the indie game, Minecraft. Well threre is some truth to that, Fortnite’s game director, Lee Perry, revealed on Twitter that he thanks Markus ‘ The Blockman’ Persson, one of the guys  behind Minecraft  “every day.” Perry also spilled the beans on some of  the game itself,  stopping short of talking about details regarding release dates or platforms, which still remain unknown.

“I see lots of questions asking if Fortnite is freeform construction. It is. It’s not scripted or just boarding up existing structures,” he wrote on Twitter. “It stands to reason if you can build a world, anything can be destroyed.”

The game’s focus is on buildings and construction Perry says. While the game does have players hunkering down for an unknown amount of time, Epic doesn’t seem to try to be one upping Minecraft’s “build anything, anywhere” approach. So who else likes the cel-shaded appeal of the game?
