Halbrick Studios, the makers of the strangely fun Fruit Ninja, are getting to work on a sequel to the Xbox Live Arcade and iOS hit. The project is under way at their new government-funded studio. While it was originally suspected that the money was headed to Halfbrick because politicians have found the game to be a great way to ease tensions, but it turns ut it’s from the “Interactive Media Fund.”
The $3 million from the Australian government will launch the Fruit Ninja series into a whole new stratosphere, based upon New South Wales Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner’s description of the game (can someone get him a longer title?). According to Stoner, the game will “involve players launching a series of fruit to knock ninjas off their towers in a 3D world, with each fruit having special powers.”
Watch for the new iteration of the Fruit Ninja series to come out in 2012 on the iOS.
