Microsoft Looking to Keep the Action Coming

We games journalists would sift through the domestic trash of gaming giants everywhere if we had the chance. Unless it’s illegal… I’m pretty sure it’s illegal… I was just kidding.

The next best thing to Ken Levine’s trashcan is job listings. Like marrow from a bone, much can be reached and devoured by the razor-toothed rat that is the video game news community.

Specifically, Microsoft Game Studios has recently listed a few openings for current and next-generation game-makers.

Here’s some of that marrow for you, without the technical mumbo jumbo:

The success of Xbox has been built upon the portfolio of core games from Microsoft Studios. The Core Games Publishing team’s charter is to partner with the best developers in the world to create the next great core franchises for this generation and future generations of Xbox. […] MGS has a number of successful core franchises: Halo, Fable, Forza Motorsport, and Gears of War. Our job is to add new blood to this stable of AAA franchises. We have huge ambitions for what we want to accomplish, and we need a great producer to be able to help us get where we want to go.

No surprises there. It’s tough to imagine Microsoft’s next-generation console (codenamed “Loop”) refrain from capitalizing on already tried-and-true franchises with new horsepower.

But it’s also exciting to hear that Microsoft still hungers for new IPs within the action and shooter genres, as the posting for Senior Producer evinces by requiring “a thorough understanding of games in the genres we are working in: primarily Shooter and Action-Adventure.” Microsoft still hungers indeed, and so does its fans.
