Rumors of New Xbox in 2012 Are “Silly”
By the standard console lifetime cycle, we should be getting a new model of our favorite systems soon. Obviously Nintendo has already embraced this theory and will be releasing the Wii-U next year. But Microsoft analyst Michael Patcher says that is “silly.” Good, can you tell people calling the next system “Xbox 720” is silly, too?
Patcher continued to explain his stance by stating, “Microsoft is still selling a ton of Xbox 360s, and they won’t replace the existing one until sales begin to slow. I think the rumors are based upon leaks about modifying the current Xbox 360 to allow it to operate Windows 8. I fully expect a new model of Xbox 360 by holiday 2012, but don’t think we see a new console altogether from Microsoft until 2014.”
Tons of sales for a product has never stopped other companies from releasing a new model (looking at you, Apple), and I don’t Microsoft is particularly attached to the Xbox 360 in any way that isn’t sales related. One has to wonder if Microsoft can be satisfied with their current profits when they know a new system will sell like crazy. I hope they do wait til 2014 because I’m hypothetically not broke then.
