Battlefield 3 came out just a few weeks ago, yet it seems EA are already thinking about a sequel. To some degree it shouldn’t be a surprise, since sales of Battlefield 3 are proceeding very well, but you would’ve thought that EA would take a small break and focus on supporting the third installment through various patches and DLC first. So what’s all the buzz about?

EA president Frank Gibeau, the man himself, mentioned Battlefield 4 during a keynote at University of Southern California. Specifically he said: “There is going to be a Battlefield 4.”

You have to wonder what that means. EA’s response to this is that “Frank was speaking broadly about the Battlefield brand – a brand that EA is deeply passionate about and a fan community that EA is committed to.”

You can bet we’ll be seeing another Battlefield game sooner or later at some point. I personally hope it will be rather later though – no need for a new Battlefield title every year with the quality slowly going downhill. Yes, Call of Duty, I’m talking to you…
