In a interview with MyGames, the man nearly synonymous with Zelda, Eiji Aonuma, confirmed development of a new title in the series for the Nintendo 3DS. The interview is in Portuguese. Don’t speak or read it? That’s why you have me.
After the 3DS remake of Ocarina of Time – the original development of which inaugurated Aonuma’s involvement in the series – similar treatment was considered for its same-console successor, Majora’s Mask.
In the end, they’ve decided on taking the unbeaten path. Our next Zelda title will bear no attachment to previous handheld iterations, and that may be a smart move seeing that it’ll have quite the act to follow: yes, the air is increasingly thick with the possibility of Skyward Sword receiving full marks from many (make that most) gaming websites.
No release date was announced for Link’s post-Skyloft adventure, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for such information and more as it develops.
