In an interview by MyGames, translated by Nintendo Universe, Eiji Aonuma, series producer for The Legend of Zelda, confirmed that Nintendo is developing a new Zelda game for the Nintendo 3DS.
“We are already preparing a new game, a game in the series for the Nintendo 3DS, but don’t think that it is a direct sequel to the Zelda titles released on DS,” Aonuma told MyGames during an interview. “We are talking about a new game, but it takes much of what has been done on previous consoles.”
Asked about whether or not the new Zelda game would be another remake, Aonuma clarified that this wouldn’t be the case, as with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.
“It’s something I’m asked about often and I assure you that it is something I’ve spoken to Miyamoto about,” Aonuma stated. “But recently we released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D as a remake. We are considering the idea, but it didn’t seem right to launch a remake one after another, so the next Zelda game on 3DS will be original.”

Awesome! I figured it was inevitable that an original Zelda title came to the 3DS, but it’s still good to hear.
I hope that it isn’t just touch screen controls this time. And make it a little smarter if you know what I mean.
