Was Nintendo Planning a Touch Screen for the WiiMote?
Siliconera recently discovered a patent application that was file by Nintendo for what appears to be an accessory that attaches to the Wii remote that gives it touchpad functionality.
Obviously the Nintendo Wii U is all about the new controller, which is a touchpad itself, so it appears Nintendo was cooking up something before deciding which direction to go to.
From the design, Siliconera says the device’s mirrors are what makes the attachment function, and when touching the pad, an LED turns on and sends beams, which the controllers recognizes as “position data.”
The application says the accessory would be used as a drawing pad within a game or as a mouse pointer interface.
