With over 400 million downloads worldwide, Angry Birds is undoubtably a cultural phenomenon. Developer Rovio has decided it’s best to cash in on that popularity while they can, so they’re moving forward with plans for an Angry Birds movie.
With the help of former Marvel Studios Chairman and Iron Man producer David Maisel, Rovio will bring their mobile hit to the big screen. Much to my dismay, it will not be a live-action re-imagining. What I would give to see a Vin Disel-led group of rag-tag birds attempt to destroy the reign of the oppressive King Pig, as depicted by John Goodman. Seriously, think about it.
In other Angry Birds news, there was another 50 million downloads last month, promoting the question, “Where are all these people that didn’t have the game yet coming from?” Also, Rovio plans to go public next year with a valuation of $1.2 billion. All from some bird flinging.
