2K Sports announced today that it’s latest basketball title, NBA 2K12, already available on consoles, is set to arrive on iOS devices on October 4, a first for the franchise.

“The iOS platform has quickly become one of the most popular destinations for gaming, and we wanted to give fans the chance to play NBA 2K12 with a touch of their finger – anywhere and anytime,” said Greg Thomas, president of product development for 2K Sports. “We’re excited to bring the authentic NBA 2K basketball experience to the mobile games market and we hope fans will be too.”

The iOS version of the game will feature touch-based gestures for passing, shooting and blocking and will include all 30 NBA teams in full season and quick play modes.  Rosters will reflect those of the 2010-11 season and will allow gamers to step into the shoes of Michael Jordan in Jordan Challenge Mode (found in NBA 2K11).  The current console version’s NBA’s Greatest Mode will not available in the iOS game.

NBA 2K12 will however, feature Game Center compatibility for achievements, and global leaderboards.
