Gears of War 3 Sells 3 Million Copies

by on September 27, 2011

In news that should shock absolutely no one, tons of people purchased Gears of War 3 during its first week. More specifically, 3 million people. Perhaps most impressively is the fact that the game sold more than the opening weeks of both previous entries into the series combined.

On the fuller spectrum of the gaming world, Gears of War 3 claimed the largest launch of 2011 with their sales, surpassing Pokemon Black/White. This may indicate a change in consumer mindset from “Gotta catch ’em all” to “gotta kill ’em all.” Gears also grabbed the sixth biggest launch week of all time for the Xbox 360, just finishing behind Grand Theft Auto IV. The series is now on pace to sell over 8 million units, topping the previous benchmark of between 6-6.5 million set by the first two of the series. I’d tell you to go out and buy this game, but I you clearly already have.

I’m so upset with my brother. I bought Dead Island with the understanding that he would be joining me in the game. But no matter how many times I asked when he would pick up the game, he’d simply say “I’ve been busy”. And then I see him on Gears of goddamn War today! Traitor! I don’t care how ‘good’ the game is!

Not that Gears is bad, but I’d like to actually play Dead Island with someone (and I hate playing coop games with random players).

    (Sorry for the rant)
