Burning Embers: What Happened to RPGs?

Today I’m blogging and complaining! Anyways, time for my solo. Where have all the Lionhearts gone and where are all the Clouds? Where’s the street-wise Zidane to fight the rising odds? Isn’t there a Lightning upon her shining eidolon? Late at night I toss and I turn and dream of what I need! I need an RPG. I’m holding out for an RPG until the Door to Darkness. It’s gotta be long, it’s gotta have plot, and it’s gotta be fresh from the fight….O.K. so my singing career may not lift off just yet readers, but until then I have writing! (hopefully).

In all seriousness readers what has happened to all of the RPGs? All I’m seeing right now are first person shooters galore and a meager amount of role playing games. Sure there’s Skyrim, Fallout, and umm…uh I can’t think of anymore! See that’s my point! I can name more titles for FPSs that have come out recently and are coming out. Portal 2, Bioshock Infinite, Halo 4, Gears of War 3, Modern Warfare 3, Ryse, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Duke Nukem Forever and the list goes on.

It seems as if the world doesn’t care about JRPGs or Western RPGs anymore. The game devs seem to think we have guns and war on our minds. While some of you may have those on your minds I’d fancy a fireball spell over a gun any day. For one, I can melt your gun with my fireball spell and two…um…I can catch your pants on fire! Ha! Try that with a gun!…Forget that you read that readers.

I may be going crazy so I’m going to ask you the readers what you think. Are we producing too many first person shooters and not enough role playing games for consoles and computers? Do you prefer an FPS to an RPG? Answer or face my singing career!

Every Monday Ember crawls from his cave to come and deliver his opinion to you the readers. His grumpy Monday attitude fuels the fire that burns onto the screen to form the weekly article: Burning Embers.
