“Why can’t we have nice things?” That seems to be the question the majority of the internet is asking after some leaked pre-alpha footage of a game based on The Avengers hit the web this weekend. The game was planned to be a first-person shooter/brawler for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. That is, until it was cancelled.
The game was in development by THQ, specifically their Studio Oz branch in Australia, and had over 200 people working on it for the past 18 months. Despite impressing the folks at Marvel (and in turn the internet net since the footage has leaked), the game was canned when THQ made the decision to drop licensed games and focus on their own creative properties. Those that worked on the title were anxious to try to get the game out, which may be the reason for the leaked footage.
Unfortunately, it looks like all we’ll get of this game is this video. Quit being such a tease, THQ.
