There are a plethora of games that are deserving of having their story told on the big screen. Asteroids is probably not one of them. It’s not a knock on Asteroids, it’s just not a very good cinematic experience. Frogger would be an awful movie too, though I have no doubt that Nicolas Cage would star in both of them.
Sadly for Asteroids fans, the game’s day on the big screen is still a long way away. Roland Emmerich, the director of 2012, 10,000 B.C., and Godzilla, has passed on directing the spinning-triangle-shooting-bumpy-circle-based film. Looks like the next best bet is Michael Bay, but the triangle ship is going to have to transform into something that will allow the inclusion of a slutty hot chick.
