There’s no denying that the fun of Borderlands, outside of it just being a fantastic game, came from the cooperative mode. Being able to hop into a game with friends online or just sitting down and splitting the screen while you bitched that your friend isn’t reviving you fast enough made the game experience infinitely more enjoyable than it already was.
With Borderlands 2, Gearbox hopes to replicate that experience, but they are also “interested” in the possibility of including some competitive multiplayer into the game. There’s nothing confirmed as far as the inclusion of such feature goes, but Gearbox does appear to be exploring it.
What is confirmed however, is the addition of online split screen, so you can have a friend in the same room playing while you’re both playing with others online. That may be just enough of a distraction to keep everyone from thinking about competitive play. That is, until Borderlands 3.
