It’s been a month since Steam launched a beta run of their trading service that would allow users to send various content between one another. Well, today the beta ended and the service is completely live. This can only mean one thing: MORE HATS!
The service is currently limited to Team Fortress 2, Spiral Knights, and Steam-purchased gifts. Valve promises the functionality will start into full swing as it works with developers of games to get everyone involved. Next on the list of games that will feature the functionality: Portal 2, which Valve says will include the feature, “reasonably soon.”
Once Steam Trading is in it’s full swing, the concept is that gamers will be able to trade any content they own. That means in-game items, downloaded content, and even full games. There is now an added check out feature to save games specifically for trading. We’re waiting for the new slogan for Steam, “Gotta catch ’em all” to be announced, but alas it may never come.
Start stocking up on games to bride your friends with so they’ll send you cool stuff. This could add a whole new element to social gaming.
