Third-Person Call of Duty Gets Canned

For the past six months, developer Sledgehammer has been putting together a prototype for a third-person action-adventure style game for the Call of Duty franchise. Co-founder of the studio, Michael Condrey, described the prototype by saying it was “pretty compelling, and it looked really good.” It seems like he’s really excited about it. So excited that they cancelled it completely to work on Modern Warfare 3.

You can’t blame the guys, no one is going to turn down the chance to work on a sure-fire hit and possibly the most hyped game we’ve seen since, well, since the last Call of Duty game. There’s not a whole lot of information about the project that is available and judging by the amount of people that played the 3rd person mode in past Call of Duty games (twelve, by my estimation), there’s not a whole lot of people out there that are devastated by this.
