I saw a video on Burnout Crash that made made me quite uneasy. I’m a huge Burnout fan and will probably buy it anyway, but I’m not sold on what I saw (sorry for the terrible pun). I was hoping for something more along the lines of Burnout 3’s Crash mode, but it seems like they took the term “arcade” to heart. The game looks like something you’d find at a Chuck E. Cheese’s.
Oh no! I hadn’t seen any gameplay until you mentioned it Barnaby, and you’re right! I don’t know what that was, but it was definitely not the Burnout that I remember. 🙁
Yeah ha ha, you can imagine my surprise when I was watching an interview with one of the developers and I saw the gameplay for the first time. It’s a shame, because Crash was one of the things I missed most in Paradise (the other being split-screen support).
The gameplay footage still makes it NOT look like a Burnout game..
I miss old Burnout. I wasn’t even a huge fan of Paradise although it was that bad. I want Takedown or Revenge back, please. 🙂
I quite enjoyed Paradise, especially after they added the ‘retry’ option (not sure why that wasn’t there to begin with, but whatever). And completing challenges with friends was crazy fun. It doesn’t replace the awesomeness that is split-screen Racing/Road Rage/Crash, but that’s why I simply held on to my copy of Revenge. Best of both worlds!
Though, in my opinion, no racing game comes even remotely close to Takedown – not even Revenge. Being able to slingshot cars (Shake n’ Bake!) out of your way or into enemies made it rather easy to avoid crashing, which in turn made the “rubber banding” much more noticeable and aggravating. And the lack of powerups in Revenge’s Crash mode was rather disappointing.
Still a great game, though. They better announce a new “true” title by the end of the year or.. I’ll go onto their forums and make a thread about how mad I am (that’ll teach ’em!).
