If there is a single game at PAX that everyone should know exactly what to expect of, it’s House of the Dead: Overkill. Going through the history of the House of the Dead series, changing gameplay dynamics isn’t really a thing they do. But, you know what? It doesn’t matter because this game is awesome.
Sega has made sure that this game takes full advantage of the 3D and motion control capabilities of the PS3. The Move support turns your controller into a gun, and if you’re going to play this game the way it was meant to be, you need to pick up the PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter. I used it while playing the demo and it felt like a throw back to the old arcade light gun games. I looked like a tool, but who cares? I was kill the f*** out of mutants.
Along with the motion control, you’ll want to throw on the 3D glasses and watch the mutants come right out at you. There was a scene in the boss fight of the demo where the enemy you’re attacking pops out of the screen and claws at you. You will jump, even though I warned you. You may even scream. That’s how into House of the Dead: Overkill you will get.
Gameplay wise, it’s a rail shooter with a light gun so there isn’t a ton to say, but what I can say is that it’s an absolute blast and you will enjoy it. House of the Dead: Overkill will be popping out of your PS3 screen on October 25, 2011.
