PAX Prime 11: Heroes Of Ruin
If you’ve ever been away from the PC and craving some Diablo, Square Enix is bringing that feeling to the 3DS with Heroes of Ruin. Grab your dungeon crawling clothes because you’re going to be doing a lot of crawling. In dungeons.
You’ll be able to pick between four characters in Heroes of Ruin, though the version I got my hands on only had two: the Vindicator and the Gunslinger. Think of the Vindicator as a tank of sorts, the class that charges to the frontline with giant blades in hand. The Gunslinger…is a gun slinger. You’ll be focusing on ranged attacks with this class. They both handled well in the play through and have a unique feel to them.
The combat is about what one would expect in a dungeon crawler, with enemies spawning and attacking in swarms as you fight to fend them off. The experience is changed every time you play the game, so you’ll never fight through the same level the exact same way. The single player campaign is about what is to be expected out of the genre. It’s the multiplayer that makes the game worth getting excited over. With the online functionalists of Heroes of Ruin, you’ll be able to drop in and out on local and online multiplayer games with up to four people.
Square Enix will also be rolling out a new experience every day in Heroes of Ruin, with new challenges available daily. Start watching for downloads once Heroes of Ruin drops in Q1 of 2012.
