Pre-order PSN PLAY Now!

The new service that rewards you DLC and new themes for your PS3 when you purchase a bundle of games called PSN PLAY, is now up for pre-order. I honestly don’t fully understand the service…or even if it’s a service at all. The way it is explained seems like it should just be a bonus for gamers who buy a lot of stuff, not some pre-ordered service.

The way it is described on the PlayStation Blog doesn’t help my confusion:

PLAY is a brand-new annual program, where we’re bringing you four of the season’s hottest PlayStation Network action titles. With every purchase of a PLAY title in the PlayStation Store throughout the duration of the program, you’ll receive a separate piece of DLC for each game, plus a new theme with every pre-order. If these incentives aren’t enough, if you’re 18 years or older and purchase all four PLAY titles in the PlayStation Store, you’ll get a voucher code for PAYDAY: The Heist as a bonus gift. And, PlayStation Plus subscribers will get an automatic 20% off every purchase.

I guess, either way, whether you understand what exactly this is or not, you can pre-order it today! The four titles featured are: Street Fighter III Third Strike Online Edition (which releases on Aug. 23rd, and will only be available for pre-order through Aug. 18th), The Baconing (Aug. 29th), Bloodrayne: Betrayal (Sept. 5th) and Renegade Ops (Sept. 12). So make sure you act fast!

These are called incentives. Basically, you are signing up to be added into the bank for people who want the incentive. Like a grocery store rewards program, PLAY rewards those who buy enough (in this case, four titles) with an earned reward (in this case, a fifth title). It’s not difficult.
