Kim Jong Il Farming For MMO Gold
As if things weren’t tough enough for America’s real economy, now the virtual economy may be under attack as well. An article from the New York Times reports that North Korean leader Kim Jong Il has developed a team of in-game gold farmers to help raise extra income for the country.
Kim Jong’s team of hackers, comprised of North Koreans, South Koreans, and Chinese operatives, have taken to MMOs such as Lineage and the popular Korean game Dungeon and Fighter (I wonder what that game is about and where it might take place). The team also initially consisted of a famed American actor, but he was removed from the operation in dramatic fashion as Kim Jong declared, “You are worthress Alrec Barwin.”
The factories of in game farmers have already amassed nearly $6 million by farming for gold and selling said gold on the internet “black market,” which is code for desperate players who will purchase in-game success with real money. Nearly half of that $6 million has been deposited to North Korea’s capital of Pyongyang.
The following is purely speculation, but it is believed that Kim Jong used to run the farming operation single handedly. He brought on the team once he feared that he was becoming “ronery, so rornery and sadry arone.”
