After months of teasing, Nintendo has finally released the Netflix application on the Nintendo 3DS!
The app can be downloaded via the handheld’s eShop but will require that users have the latest system update which was available on June 6.
“The new Netflix application looks great, plays great and is a fantastic consumer experience,” said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “It gives Nintendo 3DS owners access to an amazing wealth of movies and TV shows, which they can watch conveniently from thousands of free Wi-Fi access points across the country. Nintendo 3DS truly offers something for everyone.”
Of course, a monthly Netflix streaming subscription (starting at $7.99) will also be required, as will a broadband connection and although TV shows and movies will be displayed in 2D on the upper screen, both companies are working on soon making 3D content available.
The application itself is free to download.
Additionally, Nintendo has made the following titles available for download as of today:
- Extreme Hangman 2 (DSiWare)
- AfterZoom (DSiWare)
- Game & Watch Gallery (3DS Virtual Console)
- Baseball (3DS Virtual Console)
- Puzzle Fever (DSiWare)
- Just SING! 80s Collection (DSiWare)
- 3D Pixel Racing (WiiWare)
The Netflix application is only available in the U.S. and Canada.
