After the announcement that EA outbid Zynga to purchase PopCap Games, it appears Zynga has turned and dangled wads of the $1 billion they offered PopCap in front of other developers. It just so happens that a now-former EA employee and NBA Jam creator Mark Turmell happened to get hooked.
While this move may seem on the surface to be more than good timing, it really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Consider the fact that Zynga already employs John Schappert, the former Chief Operating Officer at EA just months earlier. It’s starting to look like Zynga has decided that if they can’t buy PopCap, they’ll just lure every member of EA over to their team until they simply absorb EA and in turn own PopCap.
