Nyko, makers of fine peripherals and lovers of red hair, have filled another hole for apartment dwellers. If their wireless nunchuck seemed like a cool idea, then their new Nyko Zoom will impress those in small rooms even more. Utilizing an overlaid triple lens system, the Kinect add-on promises to solve the issue of space for Xbox 360 owners who want to thrash around but are limited by issues of space. Of course, the simplicity of magnifying the already existing triple lens system on the Kinect is part of the genius behind Nyko’s decision and the Zoom seems to have lessened the spatial requirements by some 40 percent. Even better, the Zoom uses a simple clip-on mechanism to attach itself, sparing any needlessly difficult setup and allowing an installation of the product to take less than 30 seconds (in theory).
Projected to sell at a reasonable $30, the Zoom has been stated by Nyko to be “the first and only play space reduction lens for Kinect” and that it will “[remain] a mainstay of the Nyko line.” To make sure that Xbox makers Microsoft will keep their hands off of this technology, Nyko also let it be known that several patents have been applied to the Zoom. Now who’s first, Bill?
Sadly, all who have already put aside their money will have to wait until the 23rd of August to see this peripheral on their Kinect. But given how awesome it looks, blends in with the Kinect, and the fact that it actually does what it says it does, that day will be a joyous one for all those in small spaces.
