EA’s Origin Was Not Meant To Compete With Steam.

EA’s Senior VP of Global E-Commerce, David DeMartini finally speaks out on the truth behind Origin’s services and how it’s not out there to compete with other download services like Steam. In a EA Blog post, DeMartini explains that Origin’s purpose is to simply “…connect gamers with our franchises across PC and mobile devices.” but also wanting to have their games available to as many players as possible. EA will offer their games to every major download service including Amazon, Gamestop and Steam.

It’s good to know that EA’s Origin is not out to compete with Steam but it sure would be hard to convince people to use another desktop application that works just like Steam. EA will indeed have exclusive deals going on within the application that would probably make some people jump on board ESPECIALLY when the highly anticipated MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic becomes available only through Origin.

They said this when they first released Origin, and naturally no one believed them. Then they mentioned exclusives to Origin that wouldn’t be sold on Steam at all.

Still not trying to compete, huh?
