Bungie’s 1994 cult-classic Marathon has been released on the iPad for free by indie developer Daniel Blezek. The game is also available with improved resolution for $3.99, which we encourage everyone to pay to support the work Daniel put into this game.
Blezek works as a programmer at a medical center, but in 2010 he decided to start working on bringing Bungie’s 1994 Mac hit back to the Apple platform. He’s been working off the open source code, initially released to the community in 1999, to port it over to iOS, which was, “a huge effort.” Blezek stated it was “months before the code even built without errors.”
For as thankful as we all are for Daniel Blezek’s free time, Bungie may be just as welcoming to his Marathon remake. They have shown full support for the port.
This is why it’s a good thing nerds don’t have social lives: They do awesome things.
