After a strong showing last summer, Xbox Live Arcade is looking to duplicate previous successes with their announcement of games for Summer 2011. The list of games includes Bastion, which will drop for 1,200 Microsoft Points on July 20; From Dust, coming July 27 for 1,200 points; Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet will be available for 1,200 points on August 3; Fruit Ninja Kinect offers a price c-c-c-combo breaker at 800 points on August 10; and August 17 will bring Toy Soldiers: Cold War for 1,200 points.
This year’s pack of arcade releases will come with an added bonus for those who decide to purchase every offering: Crimson Alliance, an action-RPG from Certain Affinity, will be made available for free on September 7. This offer is only available to those who spring for the five other Arcade releases. Everyone else will have to drop 1,200 points Crimson Alliance. The incentive has promise as Crimson Alliance has received high praise, though maybe not enough to drop a total of $70 to get a $15 game free. If all five games look great to you and you’re going to get all five anyway, it’s a fantastic little bonus for supporting the Arcade marketplace. However, I busted out the abacus and did the math real quick and $15 is significantly less than $70. It’s especially pricey when you consider Fruit Ninja is available in an iOS version for less than a dollar. Then again, I was pretty sure Toy Soldiers: Cold War was just going to be about a plastic Ronald Reagan telling a teddy bear Gorbachev to, “Tear down this Lego Wall!” but I got that one wrong too.
