DICE Explains Why Battlefield 3 Is 30fps

by on June 21, 2011

During Last week’s show of Late night with Jimmy Falon, it was confirmed that Battlefield 3 will be running 30fps on consoles while PC gamers will be getting their full 60fps on the PC version of the game. DICE’s Rendering architect Johan Andersson working on the Frostbite engine and Battlefield 3 defended the reasoning behind the 30 fps on console versions of the game by saying:

“we always do 30 fps on consoles, not possible to fit in vehicles, fx, scale and all players otherwise,” he added. “we think huge levels, lots of players, great fx, destruction, vehicles & varied gameplay is more important than 1080p.”

With a high amount of destruction, playable vehicles and having a 24 player count in multiplayer, I don’t think having the game in 1080p should be much of a priority for DICE. I think they’re at a good standing point where the game looks gorgeous and the game runs perfect in my eyes.

In case you missed it the demonstration of the PS3 version on Late Night with Jimmy Falon:
