Car Combat Returns With Carmageddon: Reincarnation

The Carmageddon.com countdown that has been active for a few weeks has expired today revealing, unsurprisingly, a new Carmageddon game!  Gasp!

The original series’ developer, Stainless Games, will be behind the upcoming franchise reboot titled Carmageddon: Reincarnated.  The game is still early in development and Stainless is apparently looking for a partner to move the current project into full ongoing development, meaning they are likely without a publisher yet.  But the press release promises all of the Carmageddon staples that gamers will recognize, such as its signature dark comedy, wacky power-ups, and unhindered destruction.

No platform was announced, so it is unclear if this will be a retail release or a digital marketplace game.   Stainless Games has been developing XBLA games recently, so it wouldn’t be a stretch for them to release the game digitally.  No release date was revealed either, but the studio mentioned that it will be sometime in 2012 at the earliest.

But the real question at hand is, between the upcoming Twisted Metal reboot and id’s Rage…   Does anyone actually care about a new Carmageddon?
