The Newly Announced Heroes of Ruin Brings Social Gaming To The 3DS.

by on May 31, 2011

SquareEnix  has announced that it’s latest adventure game Heroes of Ruin for the Nintendo 3DS will be coming with social gaming options that might entice players to play in different WiFi locations.

Heroes of Ruin is set up to follow four heroes that have banded together to defeat the forces of evil. The game will feature a drop-in/drop-out co-op multiplayer that will let the player find their own crew to help them through an huge variation of quests. With the new social gaming options that Square Enix has implemented, the player now is able to get more quests depending on where they want to get them from.

The social media functionality of the game comes with two different options, one called “StreetPass” which is basically an auction house for players to sell their rare and epic items that they find along the way; The second is “SpotPass” which rewards players with rare items and unique challenges through local Wi-Fi hotspots. Heroes of Ruin will also have the website update with quests that the player can grab and complete in-game.

I think the implementation of social gaming with mobile devices is a good idea. I’ve always been the type of person to keep my mobile devices at home but maybe this will actually convince me to get a Nintendo 3DS and play with the cool kids outdoors. *sigh*

This game is set to be released early 2012.
