Oddworld: Abe’s Odysee, the multi-award winning Playstation video game, is getting a HD remake. It has been announced just several weeks ago, but developers at Just Add Water Ltd., a UK based studio known for PSN title Gravity Crash, are already busy working on the project.
Recently the studio has released the first image of Abe HD, as the remake is currently being called:
Although this specific image is just a screengrab from Maya Viewport, it gives us a first glimpse of the game, indicating what we can expect in terms of visuals and how the game will look. As you can see it shows us the environment of one of the many levels Abe will be moving through in the game.
What is interesting to note is how much this image resembles the qualities of the original game from 1997. As series creator Lorne Lanning explains:
“They are not trying to reinvent any wheels. It’s basically Abe’s Odysee being redone in a 3D physics engine as a 2D side-scrolling platformer.”
Abe HD is scheduled to come out in early 2012 and although no platforms have been announced yet, we expect to see the title on Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC and perhaps even the NGP, since both Just Add Water Ltd. and Oddworld Inhabitants are listed among third-party developers for the upcoming Sony handheld.
More information will be revealed throughout the year, so stay tuned!
