Dutch seizures of PS3’s

by on March 10, 2011

Dutch Officials have seized tens of thousands of PlayStation 3s from many warehouses. They are now going to the extreme of confiscating them from homes if needed. This follow up of the patent dispute between LG and Sony, which LG is accusing the Blue-Ray technology of Sony to be violating LG patents, which PS3’s have a Blue-Ray Player on the device.

LG won a preliminary ten-day injunction EU law last week which applied to the Netherlands where most things ship into Europe. Dutch officials can seize new PS3’s and have been doing this in warehouses and now have the right to do it if the device is already in people’s homes.

Sony now challenges this injunction in court. Hoping to get it removed, let us know your thoughts.
