The fighting game championship EVO garnered a record breaking 1.7 millions views on Twitch this year.

The competition had 144,848 viewers at it’s peak for Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, according to Matthew DiPietro, cice president of marketing at Twitch. Super Smash Bros. Melee brought in 134,000 viewers and Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition had another 125,000 views.

This all added up to a 50% increase on last year’s event, which was the previous record holder. Polygon notes that the event for Super Smash Bros. Melee almost didn’t happen with Nintendo denying Twitch permission to livestream the event. Fortunately they changed their mind by the time the event kicked off on Friday.

This year also featured events for Injustice: Gods Among Us, Mortal Kombat and Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
