(App)le of My Eye: #2
Hey there gamers! Console games just aren’t enough for you? Does your phone have to entertain you too? Then you’re like me. Welcome to the second article featuring fun apps available for your phones and devices on the go! Yeah, Bad Piggies may be a neat spinoff from that obsession called Angry Birds, but let’s get obscure and talk about games that are awesome—that you didn’t even know about.
Previously Mentioned: Marvel: War of Heroes and Fix-It Felix, Jr. / Prices: FREE
Alright, now let’s get started!
1.) Dawn of Magic
The Final Fantasy series is one of the most enduring game series of all time. It’s been around forever, and generations of gamers—that may not even have played it—have probably heard of it. It’s a terrific fantasy-adventure that uses a unique RPG/battle system and is notably distinct. I’ve mentioned it personally here on GotGame, under Nostalgia #1: PS We Love you, where I also subsequently note Kingdom Hearts.
The latter is proof that paying homage to a game strongly and enthusiastically enough will reap high rewards, so long as you refrain from becoming a ripoff by sustaining the source material’s personality instead of plot.
Using the same function as the classic FF RPGs, Dawn of Magic is another FREE app that appropriately fulfills your wishes for a free Final Fantasy game. Although the level grinding is as much a pain as Pokemon always was, it has a neat and indeed unique plot that revolves around your typical FF story but remains almost exactly as addictive. It doesn’t require an internet connection, and real cash isn’t necessary to complete the game. Those shouldn’t be perks, but I can’t tell you how many games suffer from those flaws.
2.) Movie Quizzle
If you aren’t just a gamer—and you’re a film nerd too, like me—then you should definitely take a liking to this quiz game that far outshines any other. As of yet, anyways. It hasn’t been updated since last December, but despite a few incorrectly programmed answers, repeat questions, and ads, this is the most solid questionnaire you’ll get.
The questions range from so easy it’ll insult you, right up to making you give right up because it’s been so long since you thought about that movie. Still, the selected movies aren’t just popular. There are a huge range of questions involving quotes or plot cues that equally consider classics that just about everyone should know about. And then there’s industry questions, such as “Who was Pixar’s first choice to voice Buzz Lightyear?”
It’s refreshing, and though there’s only 25 prizes to unlock, it’s still a good time that should last you a decent amount of gameplay before you actually tire of it. It may not be Dawn of Magic, but for those cinema-lovers out there, this is the way to go. Is it FREE? Yes it is. From blockbusters like Avatar to obscure 80’s flicks like Heathers, this is a game that’s definitely worth some timekilling.
And there you have it! Enjoy. Or don’t, it’s up to you. But keep an ‘eye’ out for more! See what I did th—oh, never mind. I need to tell fewer jokes that could show up on cheap Popsicle sticks.
