‘Star Trek’ Had to Be Co-Op, Says Producers

Paramount and Namco BANDAI have released a video leaking details of the upcoming Star Trek: The Video Game, based on the 2009 reboot of the film franchise.

While some fans love the brash, all-guns-blazing attitude of Capt. James T. Kirk, and others love the scientific, logical processes of Mr. Spock, executive producer Brian Miller says players will need to learn to love both in order to survive, and that means some excellent opportunities for co-op play.

“Kirk is this brash cowboy character, whereas Spock is the exact opposite – and when you break down Star Trek to those elements, you had to make a co-op game,” Miller says. “There was no other game we could possibly make.”

OK, I’m not a Trekkie, but I did enjoy the 2009 film, and I’m kind of intrigued by this game. Might have to add it to my list.

It looks pretty Mass Effect-y, and I’ll say that’s a good thing. I hope they do a good job with it.
