*Hello* Oddworld Inhabitants and Just Add Water have announced today that they will be showcasing their most recent project, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee HD, at the Eurogamer Expo next month. Although details about the highly anticipated title have so far been pretty scarce, the developers were kind enough to treat us with a brand new screenshot showing the game in action.
As you can notice at first glance, the game hasn’t changed that much since its 1997 debut. The HD facelift, making use of high-res textures, various modern effects and a resolution of up to 1080p, is apparent though. Despite the fact the presented image is a “work in progress”, meaning the final version will most probably look even better, it already looks great. So far the reactions from the community have been very positive – which, if you ask me, is definitely a good sign. If you’re familiar with the series, you’ll roughly know what to expect. If not, prepare to meet an interesting creature called Abe and embark on a journey on a unique world unlike any you’ve ever seen! Back in the late 1990′s this was one of the more mature and challenging games the first PlayStation had to offer and it’s only appropriate it’s now coming back – ready to introduce itself to a new generation of players that seek something different and fans of the platform genre alike.
Much more is promised to be revealed during Eurogamer Expo at the end of next month. Lorne Lanning, Oddworld creator, will be on stage at 2:30PM on September 30th to talk about the history of the series and formally introduce the world to “Abe HD”. What exactly will be shown is anyone’s guess, but we expect a gameplay trailer and some info at the very least
The gaming festival takes place in London, from September 27th to September 30th, and visitors can look forward not only to Abe and his Oddysee, but also the likes of DmC, GRID 2, Assassin’s Creed 3, Resident Evil 6, Tomb Raider and more…
Stay tooned, ’cause things are about to get Odd!
P.S. If you haven’t heard, the official soundtrack to the original game is now available on iTunes!
