The Minecraft 1.3 patch for PC will be merging the single player and multiplayer modes.
Mojang said the single player will now be a “shell on top of multiplayer.” The change is needed for the upcoming modding add-on, to allow for more fluidity in mods.
While this will mean the game needs a bit more PC power to run, the company hopes to smooth that out in 1.4.
Also being added in the patch are emeralds and emerald ore, the ability to buy items from villagers, book writing, an intro “bonus chest” to let players “get started quicker” and more.
The patch will arrive Aug. 1.
Meanwhile, the XBLA version is getting a DLC pack of 40 character skins about the same time as update 1.7.3 drops.
The skins include Trails rider, a Halo Grunt, King, Creeper and more.
