By now, I am sure that we can count the number of good video game movie adaptations on one hand. So now with the movie version of Twisted Metal, Sony Pictures is starting to stack their deck with some talent.
Brian Tayler, who has most recently been part of the team behind the movie Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, has supposedly been proposed by Sony to take over the writing and the directing of this adaptation. To go along with that, the rumor is that we are talking about a seven figure deal to get him on the project.
The movie is supposed to revolve around the story of the tournament where the combatants will fight till the death in an underground tournament. It is nice that they have the basics down for the story, lets just hope that they have enough to keep it from getting unmanageable. It is also confirmed that Calypso, Sweet Tooth, and Dollface will be in the movie. Expect more characters to be revealed in the coming months to fill out the roster.
My biggest concern for this is that I hope for the transition between game format to movie format won’t loose to much between them. But at the same time, if the movie would be nothing more than a demolition derby on the big screen, I have a feeling that no one would be that interested.
