How long does it take to have ‘everything’ at your disposal? While I do enjoy XIII, it literally took almost two discs before I could change my party around and access whatever classes I wanted for each character. Does this game pick up the pace a bit?

It took me 3-5 hrs before I felt like I was at a point for everything to be at my disposal for me to upgrade. I felt like this game has a good pace. There is the typical FF grinding at times, but the graphics are great, and so is the battle system. It is definitely a challenging title. I hope that helps! Thanks for the comment.

Good Review Man!
I have the Strategy Guide so the pacing goes a lot smoother for me than it probably would just doing it on my own. Cause the game fails to tell you which gate goes to which location when you start having to do the side stories, and it is very easy to get lost if you go away from the main quest, it’s almost like Square-Enix expects everyone to buy the Guide or look at a FAQ.
To Unlimited Lives to help L337 answer your question from somebody that’s played XIII as well:
There is a lot of side stuff to do in XIII-2 as opposed to XIII that fleshes the game out a lot. Since XIII-2 doesn’t have as many characters as XIII you do have more control and you can explore from the first town and so on… You had to get through the first 20 hours in XIII before you got out of “follow this path to this point.” If you do the side stories the grinding gets taken care of for you, if you just follow the main story you might have to do more grinding than you want to do. I really like this game! A lot of people like to blast the story but I find it good. Chrono Trigger is also my favorite game of all time, so I like the time traveling stuff. It’s up to you, but if you like XIII, I don’t see why you won’t like XIII-2.
